Job Summary
This is a Union Position. Operate a variety of equipment on jobsite. Successful candidate may work at a road site, at rockcrushers or asphalt plants, serve as a mechanic or drive commercial vehicles.
Main Responsibilities
- Operate power construction equipment, such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, backhoes, scrapers, motor graders, shovels and derricks. - May also be responsible for running large pumps or air compressors. - Drive heavy construction equipment and control their attachments, such as buckets, swing booms, scrapers and blades.
Control water and air output of pumps and compressors. - Know basic maintenance and repair of the equipment operated. - Perform equipment and materials inspections. - Must be able to understand specifications and instructions, both verbal and written. - Knowledge of and strict adherence to safety regulations. - Wear all proper personal protective equipment. - Travel within Southeast Alaska communities may be required. - Must be able to work overtime including Saturdays and Sundays.
Typical weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.
Skills
- MSHA Certification. - OSHA 10 hr Certification. - CPR/First Aid Certification desired. - Operator must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Valid Medical Card.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to pass drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities' test). - Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly. Colas Inc.
