Hourly Rate: The total hourly rate of $31.82 includes a pension contribution of $5.33 per hour.
The base hourly rate is $26.49.

Essential Functions
+ Perform duties in green waste processing, bio-solids treatment, and compost production; grind, chip, mix, stack, aerate and handle material in the production of compost.
+ Monitor the compost process, including temperature, aeration, moisture content, etc.; gather samples.
+ Perform general facility maintenance and clean-up to maintain a clean working environment, including snow removal, etc.; assist in general landscaping maintenance.
+ Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including front-end loaders, back-hoes, dump trucks, grinder, chippers, trommel and flat deck screens, rock separators, conveyers, etc.; utilize various hand tools.
+ Perform other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Knowledge of principles and practices of general facility, landscape, and equipment maintenance
+ Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, composting principles and practices including maintenance, ground water quality, monitoring, compost testing methods, and solid waste programs and requirements.
+ Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, state and federal Solid Waste Management Facility regulations, including Federal Standards for the Use or Disposal of Sewage Sludge.
+ Knowledge of and ability to promote and interpret safe work practices and ensure compliance with City and department safety policies, Montana Safety Bureau, and OSHA standards and guidelines.
+ Skill in following oral and written instructions, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
+ Skill in multitasking in a fast-paced environment, while providing effective customer service.
+ Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
+ Ability to operate and maintain various heavy equipment and hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
+ Ability to resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.
+ Ability to learn job-specific equipment.
+ Ability to learn City and departmental policies, procedures, and practices, including Missoula Municipal Code, and other state and federal regulations related to solid waste management and compost operations.
Working Conditions:
+ Position requires the ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs.

+ Work environment may include exposure to unavoidable weather conditions, occupational hazards, chemicals, biohazards, construction hazards, and physical risks, including working in confined spaces or high traffic areas, which require following basic safety precautions.
Qualifications and Additional Application Materials
+ Any combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years’ experience with operating and maintaining front-end loaders, conveyors, and other heavy equipment, or another relevant field.
+ Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
+ May be required to obtain a Montana commercial driver's license.
+ Experience in commercial, municipal composting or solid waste management, preferred.
+ OSHA or other safety program experience, preferred.
As of January 6, 2020, employers of CDL drivers must query the Clearinghouse to verify that a current or prospective driver is not prohibited from operating CMVs or performing other safety sensitive functions.
CDL Drivers must now be registered with the FMCSA Clearinghouse.
