Investigates and responds to complaints from the public. • Observes and follows safety regulations. • Acts as lead worker on team, makes repair decisions, inspects work sites and assists in training new personnel. • Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: The position involves considerable physical exertion such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.
There is routine exposure to construction materials & debris, dust, mud, traffic, noise, moderate heat, wet, and cold.
There is possible exposure to inclement weather.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Position at the Tier I Level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL
Requirements: Requires a high school diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the equipment/instruments. EXPERIENCE
Requirements: Six months of experience performing manual and field work with power tools or equipment are required. LICENSE
Requirements: A valid Driver's License is required and Compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Depending on the type of equipment to be operated, a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required.
PREFERENCES Preference will be given to applicants with valid Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL), heavy equipment operator experience (backhoes, forklifts, loaders, excavators, dump trucks), and willing to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, in various weather climates, around extraneous odors.
Experience in fencing and general carpentry using woodworking equipment (table saw, skill saw, drill press, chop saw).
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
