Special MEO Department: Forestry Employment Status: Non-Exempt, UFCW Laborers, Full-Time (40 Hours/Week) Salary: Grade 8L, Step 05 - $21.31/Hour + Licenses Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Certifications/Licenses Required: Valid Massachusetts CDL Class B License, Massachusetts 1C Hoisting License (Must obtain within six (6) months), Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP) Certification, First Aid and CPR Certified, High School Diploma/G.E.D.
SUMMARY The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Works - Forestry Division is hiring a Special MEO who will ne involved in all Forestry Department Operations and performs under the supervision of the City Arborist who assigns work and areas of responsibility.
This is a 40 Hour work week position with mandatory overtime and emergency response.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: Participates in the removal and pruning of city trees.
Operate equipment used in Forestry Department operations.
Participates in maintaining city tree nursery.
Participates in the planting, transplanting, and establishment of trees, bushes, and shrubs.
Responsible for the safe and proficient operation of all Forestry Department equipment and techniques.
Participates in the maintenance and repairs of all Forestry Department equipment.
Participates in the care of all city trees as pertaining to arboricultural standards and the Public Shade Tree Laws. Participates in the performance of aerial work for other city departments such as holiday light installation and aerial inspections of public facilities.
Participates in continuing education to maintain certifications and licenses.
Participates in all facets of snow operations.
Must be available for overtime.
All other related tasks as assigned by the City Arborist and/or Superintendent of Public Works. Abide by City of Chicopee Health and Safety policies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS Valid Massachusetts CDL Class B License.
Valid Massachusetts CDL Class A.
- Preferred Must possess Massachusetts 1C Hoisting License within six (6) months.
Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP) Certification.
First Aid and CPR Certified.
- Required High School Diploma/G.E.D.
- Required Or a minimum of one (1) year operating Heavy Equipment Minimum one (1) year experience in municipal public work?s operation.
- Required Or equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and training which provides thee required knowledge, skill, and abilities, may be substituted for specific educational/experience requirement.
