Position Summary
Oversee, direct, and perform skilled work using hand and power tools in the trimming and removal of trees and other vegetation in right of ways that interfere with electrical equipment or that create a safety hazard because of their proximity to energized high voltage electrical equipment.
The person in this position will provide direction to others assigned line clearance crew and assure safety for all personnel involved.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: + Facilitate clear and accurate communication among team members. + Promote and maintain a safety work environment for all employees by enforcing safety standards and practices. + Support and implement District decisions in a positive and constructive manner. + Communicate jobsite conditions effectively to team members and supervisors + Responsible for providing employee coaching, evaluations, recommending discipline and/or corrective action. + Ensure craft personnel complete assigned work accurately, efficiently, and safely. + Review work orders and requests to determine required tools, equipment and work requirements. + Evaluate and discuss the work performance of assigned crew members, offering constructive feedback and guidance. + Record and report crew activity and work progress as required. + Removes trees, tree branches and/or treetops that interfere with power lines, following safety guidelines and procedures. + Operates s climbing equipment, manlifts, block tackles, axes, power and hand saws and other tree trimming equipment to perform duties. + Process debris by feeding cut branches into a chipping machine and cleaning up brush and debris. + Drives and operates boom trucks, chip trucks and other vehicles to job site as needed. + Works with property owners as directed to obtain permission to remove or trim trees and provide relevant information to the customers. + Participates in daily and job specific briefings before starting each job discussing associated hazards, special precautions and work procedures in accordance with WAC 296-45. + Perform routine maintenance and sharpening of tree trimming equipment as required. + Provide clear explanations of tree-trimming activities to the public when required. + Report to the Supervisor any damage or needed repairs for overhead power lines, towers, poles, or structures discovered during trimming work. + In Emergencies, may be called out to remove or trim trees necessary to restore electrical power or fiber communications. + Complies with all Grant PUD and State safety regulations and policies + Perform related duties as required and as assigned. + Provide training and mentorship to apprentices, fostering skill development and adherence to safety standards. + Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan and Grant PUD/IBEW Local 77 Code of Excellence.
The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations. + Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies & procedures WAC 296-24, 296-45, 296-54, 296-62, and 296-155. + Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to: + Following all safety policies and procedures. + Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions. + Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and + Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance. + Accept responsibility for all team members and model safe behaviors by: + Clearly defining and completing performance-focused safety activities required of you and your team. + Supporting work stoppages by employees when identifying unsafe/hazardous working conditions. + Acknowledge compliant safety behaviors and good safety performance from members of your team (s).
Education and Experience

Required
+ High School Diploma or equivalent + Completion of a two-year line clearance tree trimming apprenticeship program or equivalent and 2 years’ experience performing line clearance tree trimming and vegetation management Or four years journey level working experience performing line clearance tree trimming and vegetation management.
License and Certification

Required
+ Valid driver’s license with no driving restrictions + Valid Washington State Commercial Driver’s License Class B (CDL) with required endorsements. + A Valid First aid card including CPR training, equivalent to the State of Washington requirements for industrial first aid or ability to obtain within 6 months from the start date.
the above within 6 months job start date. + Possess a valid Washington State Traffic Control Flagging card by completion of probation with maintenance thereafter + Journeyman Tree Trimmer card/status recognized by Grant PUD and the Union with 6 months of date of employment.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Able to work independently, be self-motivated, and exercise sound judgement + Write legibly and be able to fill out forms + Able to work with various computer-based programs including MS Office, Arcos, and others required to perform their duties + Conducts daily inspection of manlift equipment to ensure proper operation prior to start of work activity + Minimizes damage to public and private property during tree trimming/removal operations + Performs other related duties as assigned + Proper use of tools and equipment
Physical Requirements
+ Must be able to climb trees and work at heights in excess of 100 feet + Exposed to vegetation, chemicals, insects, pesticides and pollens. + Must be able to work long hours as storm conditions dictate. + May be called-out for after-hours emergency work for (24 hours). + Work requires lifting, climbing, hoisting, pulling and occasional prolonged physical exertion. + Climbing to access the work as needed. + Work in proximity to high voltage equipment. + Types of exposures encountered on the job: Constantly has exposure to loud machines, equipment noises.
